Should she quit

My best friend and I deciided we would venture into nursing last summer. We decided to stay together the whole road. During our pre-reqs she hit a hard time and lost focus. I passed the classes and she didn't. I think she may have resented me for doing good at first but I don'tknow why. Anyways at our school we a the three strike rule. You can't take a 3rd strike or you are out of the nursing program or in this case can't even get in. THe school of nursing has advised her to change her major, but she is back in good spirits and really wants to be a nurse.Do you think it is possible? She asks me what I think she should do but I don't know what to say. Does anyone think she should quit or is it possible. The classes she failed were not nursing classes they were pre-reqs that counted as strikes. Any advice would be helpful. She will be a semester behind me. We could still help each other out. What do you think she should do?

Colleges are all different but from my experiences pre-reqs are usually quite a bit easier than nursing classes. A lot of people that pass the pre-reqs dont pass the first semester of nursing school.

Having said that--it just takes a lot of work. If she is truly committed to becoming a nurse then it is possible. If the academic advisers are recommending that she not take the nursing classes then it may be wise to listen to them as they know the entire situation.

My pre-reqs were very easy although it depends on your instructor. I am concerned because if she can lose focus for a few classes it is going to be hard on her to keep focus for the next 2-3 years depending on what nursing program you are going to.

Again with hard work anything is possible.

I don't know, but perhaps your friend might consider re-taking the prerequisite classes to earn better grades before applying at other nursing schools. This is merely my honest opinion.

My sister and I started out together in nursing school. It seemed to be so much more of a struggle for me. I ended up repeating my first semester. It was the best thing that could happen. I was able to develop my own study habits, my own study groups. I became a much stronger student for it. Could be that you and your friend need a seperation to find out your own seperate focuses.
