Hello Everyone
I just wanted some advice on nursing school. Right now Im like in between sophomore and junior year and I will really like to do nursing. I started off as a prenursing major at a big school, but like some stupid Freshman in college before I choose a school that was great for my major. I went with the most known school. I also partied my Freshman and Sophomore year which made my GPA REALLY LOW. NOW im focus and is trying to go down the right path but since my GPA is really low , nursing school seems IMPOSSIBLE. SHOULD I GIVE UP ON NURSING AND CHOOSE ANOTHER MAJOR OR SHOULD I FOLLOW MY DREAM GOAL. ADVICE NEEDED!!!!!!!!!

Why not focus on getting good grades for now, and see if you get accepted to the nursing program or not? Also, if possible, meet with an advisor from the nursing program and discuss with them what you can do to improve your odds of getting into the program. Some schools will let you take classes over to improve your grade while others won't -- and the ones that do will in some cases keep your higher grade and in others, take the average. So, you need to get information specific to your school about what it will take to get into the nursing program.
So, give it a try, and then if you don't get in, that's the time to start thinking about changing majors.
Good luck!

lol just keep partying thats what college is for!!.... iv always thought asking random strangers online whether or not to follow your dreams was kinda strange? and its not like your gona really do what one of us says , any ways talk to your mom and dad if you can see what they think, talk to nurses you no, go talk to your counselor at the campus and then go to the nursing department and see what they say ,explain that u want to be a nurse but dont no if you have a good enough GPA , hopefully they will sit down with you and work the numbers, meybe u can retake a class raise a D to a A or B, then if all that doesnt work just keep partying!!!

Follow your dream.. focus on present, try your very best to get the best possible grades.. and then re-evaulate at the end to see if your grades are adequate to get you a seat in the nursing program. NEVER give up your dreams. you will regret and come back to this point if you give up now. :) stay cool!

I also agree. I've been a cna for years and never had the confidence to think I could be a nurse. Well I took the easy way out, 4 years later I have a BA in sociology. Unfortunately, the nagging feeling that I want to be in health care won't leave me alone. I'm now wondering about going back and spending another 6 year becomming a clinical social worker or a nurse. I say work toward your dream even if you have to work at it slowly, at least one day you will wake up and not be experiencing these nagging thoughts. Good luck.

Hi lelerenee2501,
You dug yourself into a hole but it is not too late to dig yourself out. The beauty of education in the US is that you can pick yourself up, dust yourself off and change course for the better. Meet with your counselors. Get to know your school's policies on retaking courses and find out if nursing schools you are interested in applying in will accept repeats. Get serious about studying.
If strangers on the internet can dissuade you from pursuing your dreams, they were not very close to your heart to begin with. And that's fine. Live and learn. However, whatever path you choose, you will need to apply a modicum of discipline. Wherever you go, there you are.

I was in the same boat as you until I got into nursing school this year! I initially got bad grades in my pre-reqs and had to take most of them over again. I actually took A&P 3 times! One of the first things I learned was that focusing on getting into only one nursing school severely limits your opportunities. Look around at other schools in the area that require different pre-reqs (maybe classes you haven't taken yet so you have an opportunity to get that GPA up). Look for schools that require other things like work or volunteer experience so not all the focus is on your grades (this experience makes nursing school easier anyways). There are many opportunities out there, even if it feels like the door is slammed in your face. Looking back, I realize that it was probably a good thing I didn't try to conquer nursing school when my priorities were all out of whack. But the main thing to understand is that if nursing is really what you want to do then DON'T GIVE UP!!!! Good luck!
Thanks you guys....... I am going to stick to nursing....I think I was just on panic mode because alot of pressure is falling on me now... But Im going to stick with nursing because I looked into other majors and none really floats my boat like nursing
