Shands @ UF Gainesville

U.S.A. Florida

Any new grads or were new grads who started out in Shands @ UF Gainesville?

I understand it's a huge complex and wonder how they are with new grad nurses and orientation?

How do you like working there (what area do you work in)?

Do you recommend starting out there?

Specializes in Mother Baby & pre-hospital EMS.

Bumping this thread up because I should be starting my job search soon and am very curious about how the nurses feel about working here. I don't know if I should apply in person or at the website. When I type in keywords and pasted my resume on there, I got very little results. I am also curious if they have new grad internships.

I am very interested in Shands. I have never been to Gainesville, but have heard Shands has a great reputation.

Any nurses currently work @ Shands that could offer up their commentary?

Specializes in Cardiac.

would be very interested to here any replies :)

I have two friends that work their in different units and they are both very happy.

I don't work at Shands. However, they hire plenty of new graduate nurses each cycle. Many of the ICUs are staffed with new grads (neuro, for example, comes to mind). I actually find that a bit interesting that they have so many new nurses in high acuity areas, not sure where all of the more experienced nurses end up!

Keep in mind that AGH closed in 2009, and all of those employees were assimilated into the Shands UF fold. I'm not sure if there are as many openings now as there were 2 - 3 years ago.

I do work at North Florida, and highly recommend it. It's a great hospital, albeit not as "big and shiny" as Shands, it still has plenty to offer a new grad nurse. Keep it in mind.
