Shadowing Experience

Hello! In the process of completing requirements for CRNA school and I am looking to start shadowing. Who at your facility (or another) did you contact regarding your shadowing inquiry? I work for a large hospital however I don't personally know a CRNA so I'm unsure who to reach out to. Thanks!

    talk to your coworkers, talk to your manager, your could even try contacting the HR department otherwise!

    I asked a CRNA that was dropping off a post-op patient in our SICU how I could go about shadowing her or another CRNA since I was interested in applying to schools. We exchanged numbers and I followed up with her. She set it all up and was extremely helpful and enthusiastic about me coming in. I’m not sure how it’s done elsewhere- I feel like I lucked out!

    I think you did! Our ORs are mostly run by anesthesiologists. I’ve never had a patient dropped off by a CRNA. I think CRNAs at my facility primarily work in L&D.

    This is what I did. Get to know a CRNA and express interest in the profession and they will more than likely let you shadow.

    I ended up contacting a school I was interested in applying to and they let me shadow in their ORs. It cost me some travel $, but I made it into a mini vacation and it was a great experience.
