Schooling Advice

Hello everyone. I made a post last week looking for advice. Here I am again. I am currently in school for Medical Assisting. I am now learning that working as a Medical Assistant will not benefit me on my path towards becoming a Registered Nurse. I am now considering switching schools and pursuing my CNA to get my foot in the right door and some experience under my belt. Then later apply for the RN program. Does this sound like a better idea? I am open to all aspects of advice.

I am smack dab in the middle of my schooling at Heald but am willing to make the change for the benefit of the doubt!

Thanks everyone who replies to this post. I am just so confused. :uhoh3:

why not try LPN??? the programs are usually only a year/3 semesters long and you usually get accepted into an RN program quicker, almost immediately if you are already an LPN... also about 8 weeks into the LPN program you are qualified to take the CNA exam so you can be a CNA while completing your LPN!!!

OMG wow that's amazing. That's definitely something I need to look into now. If i Can kill two birds with one stone that'd be even better. I had no idea that after being in an LPN course for 8 weeks I can take the test for CNA. You just made my day! I will look into that right now!!!!!!!

If you're already planning on going to school... why not just go for the RN?? :p

Many schools offer an accelerated program, for RN and BN. I am taking my BN over a period of three years. If nursing is something you really want to do, just go for it! Good luck!

Thanks for the advice. The main reason I want to do my CNA or LVN first is so that I can get some experience in the field first. I want to get a good idea of what its going to be like :)

That's a very smart idea, you could completely change your mind, or it could motivate you to go for your RN even more!! I worked as a HCA for a year at a general hospital before nursing school, to see if it was what I really wanted to do.. :) It's definately an interesting job field. If you go for your CNA/LPN try to get a position in the float pool if you decide to work in a hospital (that's what I did.) You'll get so much learning experience and get to see what working in each unit is like!

I think more than anything I'll go for my CNA. In California, it seems as though there is no demand for LVN's. But I've seen alot of job opening for CNA's. I am just a confused 22 year old who has no idea what to do with herself. lol. I have so many interests. I really wanna do Labor and Delivery eventually. But I gotta start somewhere and atleast ive realized Medical Assisting isnt too good of an idea.
