School Nurse

Hi Everyone!

I'm new to this site and to school nursing. I got my school nurse job almost 2 months ago. I worked in a pediatric office setting for 14 1/2 yrs and decided I needed a change especially with my kids schedule. I still feel like I'm lost here, does anyone have any suggestions? Everyone just keeps telling me "you will figure it out" no one gave any sort of help on how to do things. I also have one diabetic and I have never had training on how to take care of a diabetic at school and was wondering if anyone knew where you can get training.

Can you call your local hospital and talk with a CDE? How old is the diabetic? 3 of mine are on pumps and pretty well regulated, they are in HS. All have plans for coverage based on blood sugar. I keep juice in my fridge, they supply testing equipment and glucose tabs.

The one constatnt thing about school nursing is that the days are different every day, even though they are the same! Can you talk to the previous nurse? or others in the district or in neighbooring towns?

RNsights.com is a another forum for just school nurses

Good Luck!
