Schedules

U.S.A. Illinois

I was wondering what kind of schedules the nurses in the Illinois thread work?

I am currently a pre-nursing student and was just curious to see some of the shifts

you all work and where?

Thank you!!:nurse:

Well,

I work in a large, Chicago teaching Hospital.

We do self-scheduling.

Our guidelines:

We work everyother weekend;

We have every other Holiday off

We need a certain number of nurses per shift and 2 CNA's per shift, plus a Clerk.

If we don't schedule 4 per shift, our Manager will change what we have done and schedule some one.

We can work either 8 hr shifts or 12 hour.

We have permanent shifts.

Not all floors do things the same.

We have Shared Governance so other floors can make there own changes.

We are a MAGNET Hospital.

Don't know whatever else you might have questions about.

Lately, our Manager says that they have been filled with LOTS of requests for the night shift.

That;s the shift I worked for almost 35 yrs.

Specializes in ER.

I also work at a large Chicago teaching hospital and each unit does their own scheduling based on need. I work on night shift but I work 2 12-hr shifts (7p - 7a) and 2 8-hr ones (11p - 7a). I also know some nurses who work 3 12s. It varies though. Alot of flexibility though. I guess it depends on your facility and unit.
