SANE vs SAFE

Hello. I've just been looking around Maryland and even the region and it seems that the title around here has been changed from SANE to SAFE/FNE, SAFE meaning Sexual Assault Forensic Examiner/Forensic Nurse Examiner.

It's my understanding that SAFE and FNE are encompassing a broader scope than sexual assault only and now includes all kinds of domestic abuse evidence gathering.

I noticed that PA and VA are also offering SAFE programs now. Is this a trend in other areas as well?

And, you are correct, the certification programs and educative programs are incorporating many levels of forensic disciplines.
