Salary Negotiations

Hi all,

hoping for some insight and help negotiating salary for an ANM offer I'll be receiving.

I have 7 years RN experience, 3 years charge experience, and some other leadership activities that I included on my resume.

Another nurse onboarded to that position recently and shared his salary with me, so I have that advantage. I know that I have more experience both on the floor and in a leadership position, I just don't know how that translates per hour!

I have no experience negotiating salary so trying to do my research!

Thank you!

First of all, congratulations on making it this far in the interviewing process for your first management position. As for salary negotiations, I think you did a good job asking someone else to have a general idea. However, although some organizations have the same title (ANM) for different departments, not every organization will pay the same titled position across the organization.

Did you talk to the recruiter? Your recruiter should share the range for your particular position if you ask and he/she should tell you what a particular department/specialty will pay for a new manager (I understand you posted leadership experience, but unless you have experience with direct reports, you are considered new and an inexperienced nurse manager). After you find out what your organization is willing to pay for the department where you will work, then you know where you can realistically start your negotiations.

If you have no experience negotiating, you may wish to also read up on the subject too. I negotiated my salary for my current position after reading up on the subject and after years of documented successes as an ANM to close my deal. Good luck!
