RUMINATION SYNDROME

Hello everyone! I am an elementary school nurse and have been dealing with a little kid diagnosed with Rumination Syndrome a little over a year ago. This has been an ongoing issue for a while now and it is getting in the way of his education. He has been through all diagnostic testing, seen by multiple doctors, and is now seeing a psychologist. NOTHING IS WORKING... He has been doing diaphramatic breathing with diversional activities, which do not work either. He vomits up to 20 times a day. Has anyone dealt with rumination syndrome that could provide some advise or techniques that actually work. Thanks in advance!!

Mollie

Wow, I've never even HEARD of rumination syndrome....poor kid :(

I found an article. Medscape: Medscape Access

I doubt that it has any new information for you though.

I found it when I searched to see if Nissen fundoplication had been tried with this condition. That article said it had been tried but was not successful but another article shows it was effective with 5 out of 5 patients Effective treatment of ruminations with Nissen fundoplication | SpringerLink

I worked pediatric psych and we had orders to give apple cider vinegar after each meal and snack. It seemed to work.

Just a tablespoon?? Do you know the reason behind this?? I'm willing to try anything.

We did 5 ml. It stings and tastes gross when coming back up. It would make them realize they were doing it and discourage it.
