ROTC or ANCP

Published

Hey!

I'm going to University of Maryland School of nursing which doesn't have an ROTC program. I am interested in possibly joining the military just because I hear it has great opporunities and I'm from a military family.

Is the ANCP still a thing? If so how do you apply? I couldn't find information on that on the website.

Can I do ROTC if my campus doesn't have its own program?

I'm not sure if ANCP is still breathing or not. If it is, I'd strongly recommend it. Your first move would be to speak with an AMEDD recruiter (specifically an AMEDD recruiter), which can be found on the goarmy.com website.

I don't know what branch you're looking at. The Navy, AF, and Army each have different programs. The Army is the most over-saturated with nurses right now, and I don't think they take any new grads who didn't do ROTC. The Navy and AF both take civilian new grad nurses (and experienced ones) via direct commission programs.

I think the Navy's new grad program is called NCP and the AF's new grad program is NTP. You'll need to contact a healthcare recruiter (google "navy or af healthcare recruiting") to get the latest info, however you generally have to start applying about a year before you plan to commission.

Hopefully your grades are good, because direct commissioning is extremely competitive.
