I am looking for a safe prep for mucous membranes in patients allergic to iodine. I have recently heard of a product called Techni-Care. I would be interested in any comments by users in the OR. Thanks!

We use that prescription mouthwash, I forget the name, but the active ingredient is triclosan (I think)...Sometimes, the docs (esp. ENT) don't even want an intra-oral prep.As far as vaginal mucosa, we use Phisohex if the Pt has iodine allergy. If anyone knows of any other products, I'd be interested to know, and see if my institution would approve it for trial.

We never considered Phisohex as an effective prep solution, but there's not many choices outside betadine. Do you mean oral mucosa?
