RN student needs advice!

Published

Hi...I am an RN student and I will graduate in 2 months. I was wondering if anyone had some advice on how to better prepare myself for the transition from a nursing student to a nurse. Any advice would be appreciated! thank you!

Hi and congratulations on your impending graduation!

Does the city or town you live in have a mentoring program within the hospital you are seeking employment at? Yeah, it can be quite a shock to make that transition from nursing student to a new graduate nurse.

Here is a website and a book that might be of help to you:

Training Wheels for Nurses: What I Wish I Had Known My First 100 Days on the Job: Wisdom, Tips, and Warnings from Experienced Nurses (Training Wheels) ISBN number: 743261917

published in 2004 by Kaplan.

You might want to check out this website:

When I graduated from a nursing diploma program in 1975 we actually had lectures, readings, and seminars on making that transition and the impending culture shock we might experience.

Good Luck To You!

Thank you so much! I will check into the websites you've given me, and find out if a mentoring program is available at where I plan on working. You've been a big help! Thank you :)
