RN programa @st.clair and mott community colleges

As to which college is better in preparing you for a career in nursing, either is great. I am a practicing hygienist and have asked countless nurses where they have gone to school and which nurses they feel are most prepared coming out of college. Mott is consistently rated best-even better than U of M-Flint. I'm halfway between St Clair and MCC but I do get a majority of nurses/grads from MCC. St Clair is very good as well but I have heard it is a very demanding program.

As far as getting into the clinicals, there is a wait list with Mott. I've been on the list for 1 1/2 years and am anticipating another year. MCC does now require that you pass the NET test, which I took and passed yesterday :wink2: which may have an impact on students who are waiting to get into clinicals. You only have 3 tries to pass the test and are required to remediate after each failure which could delay many already on the list. The nursing instructor said it may speed up the wait time but anticipate at least 2- 2 1/2 year wait.

SC4 goes strictly by GPA, their nurse entrance test and factors everything into a point system. The more points you have the more likely you are to get in. From what I have heard if you are not carrying at least a 3.8 with a high entrance test score your chances are not good. SC4 only takes 40 students each fall and when I talked with their advisor last month, they compile that list in January. If you have all classes complete that they require than you can apply. I woud suggest talking with an advisor at each college to see which would be the best for you.

I am a current Mott Nursing Student. I just registered for my last semester! Woo hoo! Anyway, I can't say enough about our instructors at Mott, very helpful! The financial aid, registration? That's another story! Anyway...I know that there is a wait at Mott but like stated earlier, you do have to take an entrance exam and hopefully that will cut that list down! Never hurts to be on a couple lists?! I'd start signing up for all the schools you can now!

Any thoughts, suggestions, tips etc w/ the nursing program? Like I said I have another year or so but have been having MAJOR anxiety over whether or not I can get through the program. It would have been so much easier if I would have decided this the first time around rather than making a career change now. Ugh. Any thoughts appreciated!

It's alot of work! I should put you in contact with a girl from my class. She is a mother of 3 and also a RDH who is making a career change. Sounds like you two might have alot in common! Wasn't your RDH program demanding? I think that the nursing field is obviously very rewarding and you know that there is an end to school is what is making me "sane". (does that make sense?) Anyway....I guess I don't have very good advice except follow your dreams! What do you have to loose?
