Hello Everyone,
I have been an NP for three years and an RN for 20 some years. I have found the transition hard from an RN to NP in regards to dealing with physicians. Has anyone else had difficulties and if so what kind?

Hmmm...what do you mean "hard?"
I've been an APN for 10+ years and RN for 24 years. I work in a large nephrology practice and this is my first APN job. I came to the practice not knowing any of the MDs and did not have any issues except for one. One of the MDs was known to be "difficult" to work with ie he would belittle you when you asked a question, answer with sarcasm, and became easily frustrated and was rude. However, fortunately for me, that MD left the practice a few years after I joined.
I did a part time gig in a community ER where I knew many of the staff (RNs and MDs) because my RN background is ER and that was miserable. Several of the MDs I worked with did not wish to work with an APN and made that perfectly clear. The RNs then refused to do my orders or went around me and asked the MD "does this really have to be done?" I lasted 6 months and told them where to put their job....
Most of the physicians I work with now appreciate the APN input and care that we provide our pts. We have 8 APNs now - when I started we had 4.
Can you give some examples of the issues you are having?
