Rn to msn

Good day all. I'm currently getting my Asn and want to continue. Eventually i would like to become a psychiatric nurse practitioner. I'm just not sure if I should do rn to bsn or rn to msn. I know that you need your bsn nowadays.....but I'm just not sure which way to go on this. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

My advice would be to get the BSN and then enroll in an MSN program somewhere, for a few reasons. First, if you already have the BSN, it gives you a lot more options for MSN programs. It is often actually cheaper to get the BSN first at an inexpensive online program (such as WGU, Ft. Hays, or UTA). Finally, sometimes life gets in the way, and you may choose to delay the MSN, or you may decide you want to go in a different direction altogether. If that's the case, then you still have a very marketable BSN under your belt.
