RN to MSN program Reputation

Hi all,

I am a master level counselor and I've been interested in becoming a Mental health/Psychiatrict NP for a long while. I do not have a BSN, however I was thinking of taking classes at my local community college to save money earning the RN (I am not eligible for aid other than private loans since the BSN would be a second bachelor degree). My goal would be to complete the RN and go straight through to the MSN( hopefully a hospital or mental health agency would pay for the MSN). Where I live at in PA, there are a number of psychiatric facilities. I noticed many RN to MSN programs. What is the reputationof this type of degree and am I able to work as a non BSN RN, I have heard from friends that many places won't hire you without the BSN now. Thanks
