RN or LPN?

Published

Hi! I'm a second courser taking up Nursing in Manila. I have just started studying Nursing this semester.

Looking at my course curriculum, it shows that it will take me like three years to finish the course - with respect to the prerequisites. That I think is too long for me. I'm a single parent solely supporting my son, and I just lost my dad two weeks ago. I still have two sisters who are studying. So I'm strongly-determined to finish the course and get hired quick.

I am now wondering what if i just shift to Licensed Practical Nursing. There's this school in Makati that offers the course. And it is for 1year only. My question is, Does the US employ LPNs from the Philippines like they would Nurses? What are my chances of getting hired as LPN against my chances if I were a Nursing graduate?

Please help me make up my mind.

Hi,

I live in Canada, and there is a demand for LPN's here, so I imagine the U.S. market is quite the same if not more of a demand. I remember reading a couple of american want adds for LPN's, and some hospitals were in need. I was wondering, I thought the Philippines did not have LPN's?? Anyways, I hope I gave a little bit of help on your question. Good Luck !!

I am so sorry that you just lost your dad. My prayers are with you.

I am taking the LPN route and then do the bridge over to ADN. Not sure if I would do the BSN. Have not decided yet. I already have a BS from another school.

God bless,

Holly

I know a lot of RNs from the Phillipines and was told that the US and England will issue Visas only to nurses who are RNs. So if your goal is trying to come to the USA, you will have no problem as an RN. The US does have a nursing shortage but only a Registered Nurse shortage according to the powers that be.
