RN or BSN?

If I go to nursing school should I go for RN or BSN? My neighbor who is a nurse said go with the BSN. Im confused with it all. I want to be a L&D nurse so not sure if that has anything to do with it? Thanks!

you need to remember that RN is after you pass the state boards regardless of what type of school you go to, you can choose diploma, associate degree or bachelors degree....but until you pass the boards you are not an RN.

You can become an RN and work in L&D with either an Associates Degree or a BSN. The BSN is a baccalaureate degree and may prove useful later on if you decide to persue something bedsides nursing. One never knows where one is going to be 20 years from now and you might want to go on to be an educator, manager, or even become a nurse midwife. So getting the BSN now if you have that option is very good advice from your neighbor.

Sometimes though the ADN is cheaper and quicker.

I am in the same situation. I want to become an RN.

Personally, though. I want to take do the RN path. 2 years of community college; Pass the License exam, and become an RN. Even though, My main goal is to become a Nurse Practitioner. And for that? I need to pursue for a BSN. :\
