Ritalin

Hey all! California LVN with a question

I have to go in for a post accident drug screen. (Routine- I was struck by a patient and suffered an injury.)

I have a prescription for Ritalin, which I take BID for diagnosed adult ADHD.

If this shows up on the drug screen, what can happen?

I have to go Monday, and I haven't taken my Ritalin since Friday because I am scared.

If you have a valid prescription there shouldn't be a problem...

Hi, Boston! Thank you. I have a valid script. I have read horror stories, some on here, of nurses getting reported to the IPN or BON by employers. I figure I *may* be being overly cautious, but I was just wondering.

Others are right. There should NOT be a problem. If I were you (which I am not) I would wait until after your drug screen to take a dose again. You really just never know. I say better to be safe than sorry. It's crying shame, but sometimes in Nursing when it comes to your "personal stuff", it is better to e safe than s0rry. Just my opinion as a Nurse with a disability. Best of luck~

I take Adderall for ADHD and I've had to take drug tests for nursing school and work before. It only showed up on one of my drug tests, and I was called by the company who did the drug test. All I had to do was provide proof that I had a prescription from my doctors office. However, when I did my drug test for work I asked about it in advance because I didn't want it to be an issue, and I was told that it may not be screened for. It depends on how extensive the drug test is.
