retrogression

Hello,
I have recently joined this site and very pleased to how happy i am to be introduced to it.:yeah:I have been reading so much about retrogression that i am now confused:no:. I am a UK registered nurse/midwife for the past 8yrs, i took the nclex exams with the california board of nursing last year August and passed:lol2:, but of course they ar refusing to give me my licences until i give them my SSN, which i don't have:(. My agency wants me to sign a contract so they can begin my green card application, but i am very scared :nono:as i don,t know what is happening about the retrogression , how long will it take for me to go to the US and i don't want to be tied down and eventually sued. I am so desperate to leave the UK:banghead:, that i have started the process of moving to Canada, but have met with a stumbling block with the nursing board about my nursing hrs as they reckon i have been working more as a midwife rather than as a nurse. What should i do?, i am so so very confused:no:

Congrats on passing NCLEX. Much has already been written on here about Ca but they will not give you a license until in the US with a valid work visa. Now no one really has any idea how long retrogression will last but it is affecting a lot of nurses from all over the world. You will not be affected by retrogression until the I140 has been approved which depending which office it goes to can take anything from 6 months plus (a few have taken over 12 months to get approval) and that is the start of the proess and what the agency submits. You are looking at 2 years plus at the moment which may get less or may get longer depending what happens but currently the demand for visas outweigh the visas allocated.

Thank you for your reply:), I will how it goes, i noticed that you are from Nova Scotia, so you must know a lot about canada, do you think its wise to proceed with both application, :madface: or i can go to Canada and when i do get the opportunity to go to the US do so? People have told me Canada is a beautiful country and a nice place to bring children up and when once i go there, would want to stay:heartbeat. What is your say on this, sorry to be troubling you. :bow:

No trouble. I have been in Canada since 31st March and had no problems. I haven't yet gone through the nursing side of things as my husband was the one with the work permit. I live very remotely with 18 acres of land and a 5 bed house which is great for my dogs and I enjoy the exercise as weather permitting I take them out a few times a day. It does seem ideal for children but I guess a lot depends on what you want and where you want to live
