Resume Critique

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I am applying to a nursing program that requires a resume to be included with the application. I don't have much experience in the health field except for when I volunteered at a hospital. I was hoping to post my resume to see if anyone else had any opinions are suggestions to make my resume better. Thank you!

First, a little friendly advice- change your avatar to something more anonymous, and take your name off the resume on here. There are lots of reasons to protect your identity on a public forum, especially once you're a nurse!

*Expand on what you did in your volunteer experience. Describe your tasks and activities. Include dates.

*Put the expiration date of your BLS, not the issue date.

*For your sporting good job, any cash handling? Multi-tasking? Problem-solving? Resolving customer service concerns? This kind of stuff is good to include.

*Skills profile- take out things like "quick learner" or "energized and organized". These belong in a cover letter. Keep your resume objective, and save the subjective for the cover letter (which I realize you aren't submitting, but even still, these stay off your resume).

*Any babysitting experience? What kinds of responsibilities go with that?

I hope that helps! :) Good luck getting into your program!

Thanks very much! I thought I did X out my name oops!

Well I don't have baby sitting experience but I do have my own child, so I'm not sure if it would be professional or along those lines to include that.

I wouldn't include any parenting experience. Did you do any other volunteering when you were younger? Anything out of the box you might be able to include?
