Hi there.

Since Illinois is not a compact state, you probably need to begin by investigating the process for becoming licensed in Tx. There may be some extra hoops to jump since there is a huge variation in LP/VN schools. BTW, Ca & Tx are the only two states with "LVN" license rather than LPN.

LVN opportunities in the Houston area are limited to non-acute settings. If you have experience in a particular area, that's probably where you should concentrate your efforts. You'll need to have a Tx license before potential employers will take you seriously. There are a few LVN-RN (ADN) programs in the Houston area. Lone Star (North Harris), Houston CC, and San Jacinto (South) are all reasonably priced 3-semester programs. Keep in mind that most large systems in the Houston metro area are only hiring BSNs.

Best of luck to you on your relocation & educational goals.
