relocating to Texas from IL

Hi, I am currently a LPN in Illinois looking to relocate to Houston.. How are the jobs for LPN's in Texas and does anyone know who's hiring???? any LPN to RN schools that's great in Houston???

Hi there.

Since Illinois is not a compact state, you probably need to begin by investigating the process for becoming licensed in Tx. There may be some extra hoops to jump since there is a huge variation in LP/VN schools. BTW, Ca & Tx are the only two states with "LVN" license rather than LPN.

LVN opportunities in the Houston area are limited to non-acute settings. If you have experience in a particular area, that's probably where you should concentrate your efforts. You'll need to have a Tx license before potential employers will take you seriously. There are a few LVN-RN (ADN) programs in the Houston area. Lone Star (North Harris), Houston CC, and San Jacinto (South) are all reasonably priced 3-semester programs. Keep in mind that most large systems in the Houston metro area are only hiring BSNs.

Best of luck to you on your relocation & educational goals.
