Relocating to Orlando

Published

Hey everyone!!!

I'm so happy about this site. Hope ya'll have a minute to read my post and share your opinion about my situation . . .

I am an LPN trying to get into school for the RN. I live and work in South Florida doing hospice (continous care). I travel anywhere from West Palm Beach to Miami. I work as an independent contractor with a couple of agencies that are contracted with various hospice companies. They pay anywhere from $17.50 to $20 per hour, and most of them have next day pay. I am looking to move to either Orlando or Tampa in January of next year, but my first choice is Orlando. I have been checking out a couple of community colleges there, but my first choice is Valencia Community College (being they have an online LPN to RN bridge program). These are my two questions I have . . .

1) Do they have any agencies there that are contracted with hospice companies or do you have to work directly for the hospice companies themselves? (Both for Tampa and Orlando)

2) I have read alot of threads about Valencia Community College. Do they have a long waiting list for LPN to RN bridge?

Actually 3 questions . . .:lol2:

3) Would it be possible to finish my pre-requisites in August of '08, apply by October '08 and start in Spring '09 or am I being unrealistic?? (I only have Chemistry and English finished from Broward Community College that can be transferred).

Hope I can get some feedback from both the Tampa and the Orlando people out there!!!!! :monkeydance:

Hope you all have a good rest of the day!!!!

I'm not sure, as I have just moved here myself. With luck mabey we will be in the same program!

At least you have a couple pre-req's done. That's more than I can say.

I have been trying to figure out how to accomplish the pre-req's also.

I have heard of people taking clep exams, and "clepping out" of most pre-req's. Also your LPN is worth something. I think, I could be wrong, but from what I've read, you can receive up to 30 or so credits as well.

I have been to busy to go talk to a counselor at Valencia, or now theres a Seminole college near me as well.

If you hear anything let me know!!! I am desperate to get my RN. But I work full time and I am a busy mom.

But it would be a shame to stop now, with only a year and a half to go, for achieving my dream...

Thanks for the reply. I will definetly ask about the Clep exams that you are talking about. I am very interested in the LPN to RN bridge program at Valencia because you can do it online. I'll actually be heading to Orlando next week to view some of the schools there, but Valencia IS my first choice. Hope everything works out for you. I'm not sure if Valencia has some of there pre-reqs offered online, but I took my English 1101 online down here. I hope they do because online classes really work good for me. I know down here, you have to be at the school for the labs though. Good luck to you!!!!

Does anyone still have an answer to this question?????? :coollook:
