Relocating to NC

U.S.A. North Carolina

Published

I am looking to relocate to NC in the next year. My mom and I both will be moving. I have spoken to a Realtor and they cant tell me what a nice area is by law. I will have my RN degree by the time I leave. I would like to live in the middle of the state. I am DONE with coastal living. I want more near the mountains but not in them. I live in FL now but I am originally from Ohio. I have been looking at houses in Shelby, Salisbury, and Gastonia. Could someone tell me how those areas are, are there hosptals to work at. I am very interested in ER. Trauma ER to be exact. I am currently and ER tech so I have Trauma experiance. I also want to make it clear that my mother is disabled, we both will be living alone. I dont want to move her there and then have to worry about her being alone. We also want an OLD house. She has been in the Antique business since I was little. (over 30 now). So if anyone has an idea what counties we should look in please let me know. I love the surrounding Charlotte areas. I want small town. I want to be close with people and not so plastic like it is here. (Fort Lauderdale). I want some rural and well I just love NC.

Of the areas you mentioned, I think Salisbury is the nicest. Gastonia is going to be a little closer to Charlotte, but also has higher crime rates. The hospital in Salisbury is Rowan Regional, but there are other hospitals close by. Rowan is in the process of finishing a new ER, which will be a trauma center. I think it is scheduled to open next month. Some of the other hospitals would include Northeast medical and Carolina's Medical Center (University location).

Is Shelby high crime too? It has a house I really have fallen in love with. I also read they just built a trauma center there. Thanks so much for answering my post. I need all the help I can get for such a big move.

Heather,

Shelby is a nice place. It all depends on what you are looking for. Shelby is probably the most "small town" of the three choices. It is going to be a little closer to the mountains, which is a nice bonus. I realize I am partial, but I love NC. It is a beautiful state. I don't think you will go wrong with any of the towns you chose. I should clarify the comment about the crime rates. Gastonia is larger, as well as having a larger population, and of the three locations, it has the higher crime rate. It is not a bad choice at all. It also has nice hospitals and is close to Charlotte.

Thanks so much for your help. I really love NC myself, thats why I am leaving here. As far as small town, I am ready for the change. I cant take any more of South Fl. I just hope when I get there they dont hate me too much coming from here. I am actually Ohio born, Florida raised. I think NC has so much more to offer than either place. Thanks so much for your help. What town are you in if I might ask.

Hi! NC nurse right here right on the coast, Morehead City to be exact. Am originally from OH too. It seems your looking more inland, mountainlike. Try looking coastal. Alot of great places to check out.

I wil NEVER again live coastal. But thanks for the suggestion. I don't care for the beach (saltwater) Nor do I want another Hurricane. I would like the Triad area.

Heather.
