REI Nursing

Published

Are there any REI nurses out there who are interested in supporting each other? I have been working in this speciality for 3 1/2 years. There is no forum on this site for this specialty and there is no certification for this specialty. I wonder why?

Hi Windsormom, What's REI nursing? I've been guessing renal something or other but really don't know and now I'm very curious.

It's Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility.

Had me fooled...I was trying to figure out why REI (the outdoor store) was hiring nurses!:lol2:

That's what I was thinking, Midget!

That sounds like a very cool specialty, I wasn't even close. Thanks

I'm out of the field now, but would have really enjoyed the comraderie when I was in it.

Best Wishes!

Oh, and a Q for you- what kind of anesthetic, if any, is being used during egg retreival at this time?

I've posted the following in another thread. Please come and join in the discussion :)

I'm just entering the field and I've seen that there's not a lot of support. The professional group over at ASRM seems barren (no pun intended), and I've been looking for textbooks on the subject, and the only book specifically written for nurses in the field was published in 1991. I was going to enter the field last year, but wanted to wait. At that time, NPG-ASRM was saying they were trying to get the certification reinstated. Well it's been a year, and I don't see anything on their website, nor in their newsletter, stating they're still trying. That is more than a little disheartening. Anyway, I decided that it's time for people to get together and talk about the field, since there is expressed interest. So, I created a yahoo group to see how many of us there actually are. Here's the link. Feel free to sign up and chat. I'll be updating frequently. http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/rei_nurses/.

I would love to be an REI nurse!!! I have to do something with the years of infertility knowledge that I have!

Last I heard, most egg retrievals were done under general. I hope that's not true anymore. I have asthma and not really looking forward to being intubated just to stick a lond needle up my hoohaw and get the eggs! Can't they just stick the needle through the abdomen?????
