Regis CHOICE program question

I start CHOICE next week (I'm very excited!) even though my job isn't directly in a medical setting; I do out-client psychotherapy and teach classes as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in private practice. I also took CNA and EMT-Basic classes and got certified in both before applying (mainly to see if I REALLY had an interest in the medical field and wanted to spend the time and money to get yet another degree in mid-life...), but it seemed what they were looking for was someone who had at least an inkling of what healthcare involves and can handle the patient interaction part.

(It is my understanding that CHOICE started as a series of partnerships with local facilities who wanted to offer higher education opportunities for the staff they already had. I'm sure part of the requirement for employment in the healthcare setting was due to those arrangements. It was only a couple of years ago that it became university based and not affiliated with various hospital systems.)

First of all, congratulations in getting in! I've been on campusbut as the application deadline approaches I am getting a little neurotic. I am getting my CNA this semester, and I have professional recommendations from the nurses I volunteer with at the mental health center. I really appreciate the explanation about CHOICE. Kristal didn't say much about it; we were focusing on my transcripts. Ever since I read the mission statement, I knew I belonged at Regis. I just have to convince them. Hi,

I'm a senior in the Regis choice program right now. You can make it into the program without a medical background but your chances of getting in are less than someone with one. Besides the medical background, your GPA and essay is going to be big factors in deciding whether you will get in or not. The choice program is almost like a self paced program in some ways and you really need good academic skills to make it, and I think the school selects students on that basis. Regis is a great school with a wonderful faculty (from the top down) and I can't think of anything bad to say about the program (besides the cost:wink2:).

Thanks, BH. The more I learn about Regis, the more I want to be there. I was reading the Society of Jesus website, and I was really moved. Good luck, and enjoy your last year!

I love the wink about the cost... There's a commercial out right now on the radio that says something like, "And Regis is not as expensive as you'd think..." Even my daughter (age 10) now replies to it (something like, "Oh huh" or "what are those people thinking??!)

Just had my first week of classes and am impressed and loving it...might be another story at the end of the semester.:rotfl:

Regis is not crazy expensive, though. Some of the private nursing schools are quite shocking. The CHOICE program is about the same as CU. Traditional is quite a bit more, I hear. I can do a lot with $20K, not to mention the bonusw of having my days free to work if I need to.

Thanks for that Info... I am also concidering the Choice program. I have a bachelors degree in HCM and work in Healthcare and that is what the person I talked to suggested. Glad to know that someone who is in it, likes it!

To those of you that have completed or are in the CHIOCE program, how does it work. Do you attend classes each night of the week and then clinicals every weekend or is it every other weekend? Is there more than one start session or only in the fall? I went to the website and it is pretty good but some questions aren't answered. Also, do you have to take all of the prerequisites if you already hava a bachelors? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

There are classes 2 nights a week with clinicals each weekend. The only start date is in August. You'll have to contact the school about transferring credit.
