Recommendations for Work in DFW Area

I'm currently a nursing student in New Jersey and will be graduating next August. I am planning to move to the DFW area once I am done with school. Do you have any recommendations for hospitals to apply to? I am interested in ED and critical care nursing and ideally I would really like to get into a nursing residency program.

Thank you!

I would recommend you do NOT move here until you have a position secured. The market in DFW is very tight for acute care positions for new grads. Hiring is done one to four months prior to the residencies/internships starting. Almost none of the hospitals here will hire a new grad directly to the floor. It is almost exclusively done through internships/residencies. There are not enough slots in these residencies for everyone who wants one. If you are graduating with an associate's degree you will have a harder time - most of the hospitals in this area have converted over to BSN only.

ED and critical care are two of the highest demand specialties. You will not want to be fussy about which hospitals you apply to. Apply to them all and pray you get an interview. You will probably have to consider other specialties as well. Understand also that the cost of coming here to interview will be on you, not them.

Congratulations on graduating and good luck!
