This link lists CNA courses: http://www.cde.ca.gov/ci/ct/rp/cna.asp You can also check with your local community colleges, adult education offices, and local long term care facilities for other possibilities. You can get a good idea about how hard it is to progress in nursing by checking out the various forums here. It isn't too hard to get from CNA to LVN. The difficulty lies in getting into RN school. You will make it easier for yourself by getting an LVN license so that you qualify for an LVN to RN bridge program. But no matter what route you choose, you can expect the academic work to be demanding and competition to be fierce. Good luck.

Do a Google search for North Orange County ROP. I took my certification exam at their facility. ROPs often offer lower cost classes than American Red Cross and community colleges (though those are also good options). The downside is that they fill up quickly and may require a prerequisite class to weed out prospects.
I've also heard that Goodwill offers free CNA classes. I was already in a class when I heard so I didn't investigate further. If the free part is true, it may be a good choice.
