Specializes in Dialysis.

Hi, I am thinking of relocating to the Reading area for a job, more specifically the Reading Hospital. I was wondering if anyone knows anything about the area or currently works there? I have read some things that say crime is a big problem there and it's dangerous to live there :uhoh21: Any input would be appreciated, thank you! :D

Specializes in Surgical Telemetry.

I am going back to Reading Hospital as a new grad in September. I worked there previously as a nursing assistant and a telemetry (monitor) tech. The hospital is huge, level 1 trauma and so on.

Yes, living IN the city of Reading is not something I would recommend. The hospital is actually located in West Reading which is across the bridge from Reading. Parts of West Reading are very upscale, it's a cute little town with lots of shops on the main street. Living in the county surrounding the area is pretty nice. We have pretty much everything and anything in the surrounding area, it's about an hour drive to Philly which is nice.

Hope that helps!

Specializes in correctional, psych, ICU, CCU, ER.

I grew up there and went to nursing school there. Reading Hospital is a good place, they seem to be on top of their game and patients get good care. There is also St. Joseph's Hospital which is also a good place to work.

Do not live in downtown Reading, even though it's inexpensive, it's very run down, and crime is rising. But, if you think you can handle it, there are huge victorian homes on Perkiomen Avenue (very cheap).

There are many lovely suburbs, West Reading, Sinking Springs, to name a few. Plus, the outlets are FABULOUS!!!!

Good luck!!

(I moved to California):yeah:
