Quick question, Please help!

Published

Hi, was wondering if anyone could help me out. I graduated in May 2006, took my nclex in december 2006, and didn't pass. I re-took them in June 2007, and passed. Now I'm applying to hospitals, and they want to know why I waited a year to get my license. Do i have to tell them I failed once? If I do not tell them, will they be able to find out that I failed the first time? I don't want to lie, but I am applying to some competitive hospitals, and do not want to look bad. Thank you so much for answering!

I personally think you should let them know the truth. I dont think it will have that much of an impact, because many ppl fail Nclex the first time and this would be a valid reasoning as to why you didnt get your licence. I do not know if there is a way for them to find out, but you should start your new job with honesty. Good Luck!!

I agree with FutureRN19. I do not believe there is a way for them to find out if you passed or failed but Im pretty sure there is not. From what I understand you can take that exam plenty of times and no one would ever know as far as hospitals or concerns.

Hi,

I think as every body wrote that you have to tell them truth, there are many way to find out, how many time you took this exam. Be a honest and truthfull. There is big shortage of nurse and it will not be big deal for Hospital.

Good Luck

Thanks for answering, everybody! I did tell a couple places that I didn't pass the first time, and it does seem to be having a negative effect. Sloan said there were just "so many new grads, they don't think it will look good (to whoever has the final word on hiring, I suppose)" NYU said they aren't interviewing anyone who graduated in 2006... I didn't know I had to start immediately after school...I just wanted to take some time off after graduating b/c I knew I'd spend the rest of my life working, but now I feel I'm being penalized for it!

Hi,

I'm a recent grad and will be working at Sloan. You shouldn't be discouraged, it is sooo competitive. Have you gone to any job fairs? I went to the Advance for Nurses fair and the Nursing Spectrum one. I met lots of recruiters from tons of hospitals. You should give it a try. You can get the dates on each of their web sites. Best of Luck!

Hi helpalready! Actually, I went to a Nursing Spectrum career fair, which is where I met the nurse recruiter from sloan. I did schedule some interviews in westchester, but I am not interested in working there. I got a job a Bronx-Lebanon, though it isn't my first choice...I plan to move to Manhattan anyway and commute. Will you be living in the housing provided by Sloan? Good luck, let me know how you like it!

Hey Jenny,

I won't be living in Sloans housing, I have 3 kids and the apt would be too small for all of us. Congrats on your job. If you're still interested in Sloan, get a little experience and reapply. I did not get the first position I applied for, but I was very persistent and got a postion in another dept. It was difficult, but so worth it. You can do it! I'll see you there soon!!! Keep trying!!! Best of luck!
