Questions about starting the program

Published

Hey everyone, I'm sure you have seen tons of these threads lately (congrats to everyone who has been accepted into programs the last couple of weeks)but I was hoping for some pre-program advice beginning in Fall. I'm hoping that many of you would be able to share some insight into preparing for your first semester in Nursing school. I was just recently accepted into my schools Associates Program. Any advice would be great on how to prepare for the semester/semesters to come and when I should start preparing for the NCLEX. I've heard the sooner you start the better. I also heard that I should enjoy my summer since my life is about to go on a roller coaster ride (something I'm completely fine with). Although I'm not terrified since I knew this is where I wanted to be for the better half of a decade and I'm extremely excited to take that next step in preparing/succeeding for my future. Any advice would be greatly appreciated and I thank you for taking the time to write your thoughts and opinions.

Seriously, take the time to relax. This will be your last opportunity to enjoy any free time for a long time.

Talk with the school and be sure that you have met all requirements ... and have purchased any supplies that they recommend (including textbooks) well before school starts. Don't put that off until the last minute as "supplies may be limited" and the people who delay may have trouble finding what they need once classes start.

Also, check out your commute, parking, where to eat while on campus, etc. ahead of time. Don't add extra tasks or stress to those first few weeks of school. Help yourself "settle in" by checking out all that stuff ahead of time if possible.

Focus on what you need for the first few weeks ... don't waste energy on details that you won't need for several months down the road. Get settled in first and establish a foundation of regular study habits and success in those first few weeks. Then you can focus on "what's next."

Good luck!

Great! Thanks so much for the advice I will make sure I am prepared for the little things and get myself settled in...great advice.
