Questions from a American.....

All nurses within the NHS are paid the same amount depending on which band you get a job at. You say you are just qualifying which means the jobs you would be more likely to get would be as a band 5, no extra for Masters unless you are applying for CNS or NP jobs, but these would expect quite a bit of post qualification experience, as a Nurse Practitioner manager I earn £30,000 oer year so in comparrison to the US not so good. As I said in my other post I expect 5 years post qualification for the NP's that I employ. Have you looked at the NMC to see you would need to do to practice in this country. Have you got your heart set on London the standard of living is not so expensive elsewhere in the UK.

Okay, I have learned that you guys paying system is a bit different than ours in the US. Its mostly like in the UK you get paid in a catergory of profession. As far as here its mostly huge ranges of pay. I have heard someone say they make 90,000 a year as a nurse with a 2yr degree. Now they have worked as a nurse for 20yrs. As a new grad out of nursing with a 2yr degree you make about 40,000-50,000 sometimes more depending on situations. With a masters here in the US most times you pick which you want to go further in CRNA,NP, and CNS, Nursing Informatics,ect. And also to go to gradschool only for a CRNA you must have atleast 1yr of acute training. Most times grad have more than 2yrs. The other main places I would like to live in the UK is Birmingham,Liverpool,Manchester, Cambridge, or maybe Dublin in Ireland. If the cost of living is okay for a single male with no kids as a nurse in these cities I may still look into relocating. How is it in these areas of cost of living ect? And yes I have looked into the requirements of the NMC and the INO.

Liverpool is another great city with great night life, you may want to consider Newcastle too a little further North but a great place to live, work and play!!!!!!

I know just what you mean though i'm quite happy here i do miss the culture of the UK, I also think despite the fact your paid more here I'd rather have the working conditions of the NHS.
