Hello, I am getting my NRP instructor course and I was wondering what I should charge my hospital to teach the class.. I am going to ask at the class what the going rate is, and I have checked the internet. The prices seem high. I have never had to pay for mine because my employer provided the fee, so I really don't know. I also live in a rual area, should my charge decrease due to the fact that the hospital is rual?

Are you an employee of this hospital? Is the hospital paying your expenses to attend the instructor course?

If you answer "yes" to both questions, I doubt that you will be paid any more than your usual hourly rate to teach the class.

If you are an independent contractor, then you can probably negotiate a flat fee for teaching the course. If so, make sure you agree in advance on who will reserve classroom space, provide the materials, pay for refreshments, etc. Good luck!

yes i am employeed at this hospital, but i am prn status. I am paying for all of my education such as class and books. I am not even being paid for my time to take the class. So in this case I am contract, so how much should i charge for just the class. they will provide the materials, space and refreshments.

I would request your basic hourly rate, plus a portion of your course expenses.

For example if your cost of attending the course was $400, and you plan to teach 4 times per year, you could break down your expenses over those 4 course sessions by charging $100 each time to "recoup" your expenses.

So if your hourly rate is $30, the course is 8 hours in length, and you plan to charge $100 towards your expenses, that would come to $340. I would then add $100 to make it worth your time, for a total of $440.
