Question about being a resident in TN

Ok, I have a complicated question. I am currently in the process of trying to move to TN. Our current home is in the state of Missouri but I now have a job in TN and have a temporary residence I stay at while here working. I do not have any utility bills or homes here in TN at the moment because I am staying with friends while I work and drive back to Missouri while I am off. We close on our house in TN at the end of next week.

Here is my question. I have applied for my TN RN endorsement but I am wondering what would consider me a resident of TN. Like I said I don't currently have a permanent residence here for about another week. My drives license, insurance, and tags are still Missouri. I did use my local address at which I am staying in TN when I filed out my tax forms for my job in TN.

Also, for those who have requested an RN endorsement in TN how long did it take and is there away to check the progress of your application.

I had to have a job here in order to close on my house and I know there is a 30 day time frame in which you can work in TN without your endorsement and I don't want to get caught up working here past them 30 days without my endorsement. I just need some clarification and any advice or knowledge would be appreciated!

Thanks!

If you are a current resident of, and licensed (with multi-state privileges) in Missouri, The Tennessee board of nursing will not issue you a license.

There is no time limit on how long you can work on your Missouri license as long as you maintain Missouri as your legal state of residence. The 30 day limit starts when you establish residency in Tennessee and should be more than enough time to obtain your license in Tennessee.

Good luck with your relocation.

What would make me a resident of TN? That is what I am worried about with closing on my house here in TN next week?

The National Council of State Boards of Nursing Nurse Licensure Compact page provides many useful resources. One of these, the Factsheet for Licensees & Nursing Students contains the following regarding residency:

The state (also known as the home state) in which a nurse declares a primary residence for legal purposes. Sources used to verify a nurse's primary residence may include driver's license, federal income tax return or voter registration.

As this is less than definitive, and could vary from state to state, you should contact the Tennessee Board of Nursing regarding your situation.
