Question re: Pearson VUE

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

hello,

i just took my NCLEX-RN in california this am. i have a few questions. does Pearson VUE determine whether you pass or fail the exam? do they forward your results to your state's BRN? is pass/fail determined as soon as the exam ends? what is this talk about the BRN grading your exam after Pearson VUE? i remember reading that somewhere on this board. so if you were go get the good pop-up after taking your exam, which unofficially means that you passed (determined by Pearson VUE), can your state's BRN determine otherwise and fail you?

like i said, i took the exam this morning. i'm feeling pretty good about it; i was just curious as to how determination of pass/fail worked in regards to the NCLEX. i tried the PVT and got the good pop-up. hopefully, i passed!

According to most people it seems to work, but realistically there's no controlled way for us to know for sure without enough people for whom failing and not receiving that message correlate telling us so. I think some have, but not many. I imagine most people who failed have better things to worry about than this little experiment.

I just took my NCLEX this morning as well, and although I participated in trying out that "trick" I'm not jumping the gun until I have my license # on my board's website. I'm not sure about the state board having anything to do with grading... the information Pearsonvue gave me to read didn't make any mention of that which I can recall. The only additional grading I can remember being mentioned is that sometimes there is a manual grading done for quality assurance after the computer issues the grade... but it's done by Pearsonvue people.

The anxiety is rough, but really, it's out of our hands now... what's done is done, so while you may take some solace in the "trick" you'll probably have a much nicer 48 hours (or longer) if you try to forget about it and do something enjoyable with your time. :)

thanks for your response! i was just curious about the grading process. i'm actually feeling pretty good about the exam. i thought i'd be a nervous wreck after the exam, but for some strange reason, i feel at peace. hopefully my state's BRN will have my name up within 3 days, though i won't be devastated if it takes longer. good luck to us!

In California, that's not likely. My experience and that of others with whom I've discussed it has been 5-20 working days (1-4 weeks, that is).

Your feeling of peace should be bolstered by the fact that over 85% of first-time, US-educated graduates pass the exam. It's stressful but it's not really that hard.

The NCLEX is scored as you take the test. So the computer knows from the moment the test shuts off whether you passed or failed. The BON does not score the exam. Pearson VUE automatically forwards the result to your BON.

However, Pearson VUE only has the authority to administer the test. They cannot grant you a license. The BON can deny you a license, even after you pass the test, if you fail to meet their requirements- such as background checks, providing transcripts, or answering all the application questions.

thanks to everyone who responded. i passed!!!!!!!

yeah, i've read on here that people have had to wait 3+ weeks for their results, most often due to an incomplete application or whatnot. luckily, that wasn't the case for me. i saw my name on cali's BRN early this am. it took only 3 business days. my classmates have said it took 3-4 days for their names and license numbers to post. my school was very quick to send in our transcripts right after graduation/pinning. anyway, i am well aware that the time frame varies considerably in cali. i got my results in 3 days, and for that, i'm really thankful. :yeah:
