Question on office injections?

I am a patient receiving allergy injections at a local family practice clinic. (My allergist office is in another town, so I have my serum sent to the family practice clinic .)

Just recently the family practice clinic hired my old high school nurse who has been in nursing for at least 40 yrs. When she gives my allergy shots, she gives then in my deltoid muscle instead of pinching up my skin & giving them in my subcutaneous tissue in the back of the upper arms like most of the others nurses do. My question is: how do I ask her to give my shots correctly & more comfortably with out offending her or starting an argument? She's very old school and probably wouldn't appreciate a nursing student telling her differently

That's a tough one. Maybe just ask: "Can you give it here instead of there? It's a little less painful for me". Explain that's how your old doctor used to give them to you. I wouldn't use the correct terms either (deltoid, subcutaneous, etc). Just act like a clueless patient. :rotfl:

Please drive to the allergist's office for your injections! By administering the serum IM instead of sub-q, she is subjecting you to a much more rapid absorption of the medication than is intended. That may potentially lead to a serious allergic reaction, which I'm sure she is not prepared to handle!

This is a safety issue, not a matter of protecting the nurse's feelings!
