question about the field of nursing

I actually dont know where to post this question. I'm trying to find out how the profession of nursing would fit in to a single moms schedule? I want to be able to be there for my children before school,, after school and be able to make all their functions....is that possible for the most part?? (i realize im aiming high there) I was thinking that i could work every other weekend whiile they were at their fathers house..but it seems to be that none on the hospital schedules during the week would fit(7a-7p or 7p-7a) Are there any other single moms who have figured out a good schedule/specialty etc to fit their circumstances?? Any constructive comments, ideas etc are welcome

Honestly, you'll be able to find answers to ALL your questions much faster, and much more efficiently, if you just scroll through the threads here! Read what's already posted on this exact same subject: several times a month, there's a person JUST like you, who's thinking about nursing, and posts the exact same questions :)

So, use the Search feature here on allnurses, and put in key words like "single mom" and "considering nursing". I think you'll find all the information you could possibly want (and more)!

Welcome to the site :)

There are plenty of things. You could be a home care nurse or a school nurse. You could also work for the Board of Health or be a sales rep for a medical company.

However, you have to get through school first and that might be the bigger obstacle. There are classes and clinicals that will have no mercy on your home schedule.

Do you have any other support like a best friend, sister, brother, mother, father that could help out with the kids while you're in school?

By the time you're done with school they could be well into middle school and old enough to pull some of their own weight.
