Question for current NP's

I was hoping to get some feedback from current NP's. I am a pre-nursing student about to start a BSN program in a few months. After I graduate and work as an RN for a little bit I want to do an NP program. I was talking to one of my friends who has been an RN for 4 years and works in the OR.

I told her I wanted to do NP and this was her response:

"I don't want to do an NP. In the OR you can become RNFA which stands for registered nurse first assistant so you pretty much assist the surgeon during surgery. I think thats what I want to do eventually. I think you should get some experience before you do your NP. Its a diferent world out there after you graduate. So I deff recommend for you to work for at least 2 yrs before you do your NP. "

What do you think of what she said to me? I guess i didn't understand why she was saying I should work for two years before going for NP. What do you all think about RNFA versus NP?

    I think that unsolicited advice is worth just about what you pay for it.

    I agree with mammac5. That was 1 opinion from 1 person. The real question is what do YOU want to do? Get your BSN and see what clinical areas appeal to you. I don't think working as an RN is essential, but if you're not sure what you want to do, it may be very helpful.
