Question on CNA!

Nurses Career Support

Published

Hello,

I am a pre-nursing student at my local community college. I want to make sure nursing is definitley for me so I am wondering if obtaining a CNA license would help me? My only concern is that I was in a car accident last month and I am having back problems as a result of the whiplash. I want to get my foot in the door (and get paid as well) to make sure nursing is for me. My chiropractor said it will take some time for my back to get better. Do CNA's use their back alot? I am afraid if I am a CNA then I could re-injure my back. If being a CNA would not be a great option for me then what other jobs would help me (and I could get paid too) to see if nursing is for me?

I know there are many types of nurses who don't have to use their back that much so I am not worried about that.. just worried with starting out as a cna.

Thanks for your time and help!!

You might want to consider waiting until your back is healed and ready to be used frequently before you become a CNA. Starting with an injured back is not a good idea. As a CNA, LPN, RN, in patient care, you will be doing a lot of lifting. How long do you anticipate your back to heal? If it is a long time, you can consider becoming a medical assistant and working in a doctors office.

Thanks for your suggestion... My back should be getting better in 6 weeks or so.. I am just afraid I will hurt it in nursing.. but I don't want that to discourage me! Do CNA's do alot of lifting?
