PTSD

  • Guides

My community health center is starting to see a large influx of refugees from the Haiti earthquake. We are trying to meet their medical as well as mental health needs. We have support groups set up and social service staff available, but we don't have any prescribing psych providers on staff, and the community resources are non-existant. Many of these patients are suffering from PTSD, with flashbacks, hypervigilance, nightmares, etc. I know from resources that SSRIs are the first line treatment, but I'd be interested in getting some insight from others who have dealt with PTSD and what they have found to be most effective.

Thank you!
