Hello, I was recently offered a position in a CVICU New Grad Residency program. I've started looking at the basics like drips, ABG interpretation, EKGs, common CVICU patients and procedures, etc. but I'm still not quite sure what else I should look into. What kind of resources, books, podcasts, and/or YT videos would you recommend? For the new grad ICU nurses out there, how did you determine what to study and how often did you? On another note, what advice do you have outside of studying related materials? I am moving to a completely different state in a big and unfamiliar state. I'm young, no SO, no furry children, no actual children. I have a close classmate I graduated with who ended up taking a positon at the same hospital. I'm also taking my BSN courses on top of this plus a grad course. Thank you! I am so excited to start. I know you can't learn everything a book but I feel it would help me be a little less anxious.

Hi, I know it's been a couple months since you commented but I just wanted to say I got a B in Microbiology as well! I'm retaking it this summer just in case I don't get in during Fall semester. Although, if I get into the nursing program, I'll definitely be dropping it. I heard that if there's a few spots left and there's someone with the same GPA as you, they'll look next at your TEAS score. I remember hearing it from one of the nursing counselors. The applications for Fall of 2018 will be coming in soon and I wanted to gauge my chances of getting into the program. I've heard things like "My friend had a 4.0 and didn't get in" and I'm wondering if that's truth or myth. I have a few friends who have gone through the program but I wanted to ask your opinion. My prerequisite GPA is a 3.79 and at the end of Spring Semester I will have an Associates in General Studies which means I get +2 points. Or so I've been told. So I guess that means 39 points? Is this enough to make me competitive? Do you guys have any advice in general on applications to any schools in Colorado? I appreciate your answers and advice! Thank you so much!

You're all absolutely right. I was told that I should negotiate always but you're right that I have no basis for negotiation. I am so incredibly sorry - I really didn't mean to offend anyone. I'll be more careful on the questions I ask.

I'm just taking prerequisites and electives to get out of the way before the nursing program in Fall. It's Spanish (I've taken 3 years in high school so the first semester didn't require much work), Pilates, Nutrition for Health Professionals, Spanish for Healthcare Professionals, and Nursing Statistics.

It's legal to work 60 hours! I sort of volunteered anyways. I've only got 16 credits this semester, all easy classes and somehow they all ended up on Tuesday and Thursday. So that leaves the weekend and Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. And I've worked 12 hour shifts beforehand in the burning hot sun dragging a lot of heavy crap around and have been on my feet that whole time. With the exception of a 30 minute break. I've had some pretty crappy jobs in the past that have prepared me physically for working 12 hours at a LTCF. Though I'm sure it's still going to be a bit of a shock for me haha. Also it's alternating so one week I work 60 hours and 36 hours the next week.

Hello! So my CNA instructor suggested I apply to this one LTC/Assisted Living Facility and she said it pays $14/hour. She says they're incredibly desperate for CNAs and I have uni classes on Tuesday and Thursday so that leaves about 5 days for me to work their 12 hour shifts. Should I negotiate for a higher pay and if so, what's the best way to go about doing that? *Note: She said they pretty much accept you on the spot* Thanks!
