Is Major Depression a mental illness?
Hi y'all. I just have a quick question. So I went to see doctor few days ago, and I asked him directly, if Depression is mental illness, he told me NO - it is a medical problem and can be controlled. I wonder is there any state in US require nursing student to disclose their "Major depressive disorder" - aka Depression? My opinion: I know many people who have had depression even at the time of applying for nursing school, so depression is a pretty common medical problem now?

Will I be approved with BON if I am diagnosed with "Unspecific Depression"
Hi y'all. Im in Texas. and I am a nursing student right now. I am diagnosed with depression (unspecific) and acute stress. So I wonder that I should check "no" to all of following these : " *Within the past five (5) years have you been diagnosed with, treated, or hospitalized for schizophrenia and/or a psychotic disorder, bipolar disorder, paranoid personality disorder, antisocial personality disorder, or borderline personality disorder? (You may answer "No" if you have completed and/or are in compliance with TPAPN for mental illness OR you've previously disclosed to the Texas Board of Nursing and have remained compliant with your treatment regimen and have had no further hospitalization since disclosure) Due to the fact that they did not mention "depression". So I just worry that if depression history will prevent me from being approved by BON Texas? Please give me advices! Thank you
