Stony Brook Basic BSN class of 2020
Yeah I agree with Jared, they send out rejection emails the same time they sent out acceptance and wait list letters.

Our Math test was times, like 20-25 mins. Maybe 20 questions, I know it was front and back. I for one got an algebra for dummies book and did every chapter that was on the test with all the practice questions. I was never great at algebra and without a calculator I needed as much practice as possible. Only like 5 or the questions were hard, I know a long division question ate up most my time. I think it's best to study a lot, if you get in you take a math test the first week if class (no calculator) so it can't hurt

Congrats to all of you that got the email!! Unfortunately, based on last years experience, if you do not receive an email by tomorrow the latest, you probably did not get an interview. I know in years past (except last year) they sent out invitations in waves, but that is not longer the policy. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I would hate for you to miss other opportunities because you are waiting to hear back from SBU. For those of you that did get an interview, time to practice your math skills! Its also a good idea to write down some possible interview questions and experiences you can pull from, that helped me alot.

The interview is not so bad, after the first round of answering everyone calms down. I liked that it gave me time to compile my answer before it was my turn. I think it was 5 questions with two of the SON staff. They really do try and make you feel comfortable. One thing that I ran into with the math test is they do not give you extra paper except the one they give you, which I didn't realize till I ran out of space and asked for more. So keep ur work small and neat.

I got into the two year program last year, and Jared is right, 4 person group interview, math test, writing sample. If you get an interview start practicing basic math so you don't have to stress about it. Ive heard of people who killed the interview but bombed the math section and did not make it in.

Nancy, they let everyone know at the same time, regardless of when you finish your application. Last year it was the 18 of January, so only a few weeks off. Good luck!

Stony Brook Basic BSN class of 2020
Hey everyone, I am currently a student in the 2 year BBP at Stony Brook. As for the reference, I have heard all different combinations of people who got in to the program, one girl even had 2 TA's and one Prof. write her 3 and she got accepted. And from what I have learned from other students is that they accept GPA in the range of 3.0 and up. I know many people who are on the lower end and got in. Impress them with you essay, get to the interview and then show them who you are. They want to like you, they want you to be friendly and personable. The essay is your ticket to the interview, so make it count!

Stony Brook Accelerated Nursing Class of 2018
Nik it's hard to saw what your chances are, obviously you have the grades but it takes more then that to get it. This year they had unusually high numbers of applicants, something like 1500 I think. So to get to the interview your essay needs to be stellar and you should have strong references. If you have acceptances at other places you should just go for it! How disappointed would you be if you waited and didn't get it? If those places have 2 year programs you will finish the same time anyway. I have to say though that a great gpa does not mean you will get in, they look for more then that. Does being a CNA mean you will get in? I doubt it. If you are ready and motivated just enroll in the fall

Stony Brook Accelerated Nursing Class of 2018
So the accelerated program is exclusively for people who have obtained a BS or BA degrees. It sounds like you are better served doing the 2 year program, which upon completion you get your BS. The reason you can not declare yourself a nursing major is because you need to apply and get into the program. Just cuz you are a pre-nursing at SB does not by any means guarantee you a spot in the actual nursing program. You can do any major you want before getting into the program but you should do one that allows you to complete your pre-reqs for nursing and ur requirements for your major. You never know what will happen and it's good to cover yourself just in case you don't get into Stony Brooks program and need to apply to other programs

A friend of mine who is currently in the program was told that by one of the professors involved with the admissions process.... who knows but that would be great!

I heard that we should be hearing in as little as 3 weeks! I hope that's the case, the waiting is the worst
