As a Humalog insulin user, I am discovering what happens when insulin is used past too long past the expiration date. I use insulin 4-6 times/day due to Type 1, and the insulin is not refrigerated. Am finding that in the second month of use, the insulin eventually will completely stop working. Blood sugar with a normal reading at the start can rise into the 350's after eating despite multiple injections to try to bring it down. Eventually when I figure this out and switch to a new bottle, the new insulin works effectively.
