- How to Prepare for a Nurse Manager Interview
Thank you for the feedback! I worry about that too, the information on the website for applying was vague and doesn't give a date on when it was posted, so I'm not sure how long it has been open but there are a lot of management positions open on what seems like a lot of floors so I thought about why they are all open as well. I will definitely be asking a lot of questions.- How to Prepare for a Nurse Manager Interview
I have an interview at a very large hospital in my city for the CVICU and cardiac step down unit Nurse Manager Position. I have been charge before and have worked in the ICU for over 4 years (at a sister hospital). How do I prepare for this Interview? Other than the behavioral questions that seem to be asked a lot lately, what else can I expect? This would be my first interview for a nurse manager position but something I want so bad! Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated!- How to handle the death of a faculty member with young children
thank you all for your kind words and advice. We had a crisis intervention specialist come to the school today and all the children have made cards for his family. it has been a hard day for the students but so far they are all handling it very well, we've even had time to talk about the dean and the memories the students have had with him which I feel has helped. All of the advice above has been great and the principal and I will be coming up with some sort of memorial plant or scholarship in honor of him. you guys are amazing- How to handle the death of a faculty member with young children
This is my first year in school nursing (most of my experience ICU and dealing with death/talking to families of older age). I just received news one of our faculty members has passed away. He was very young, had just had gastric bypass a couple months earlier and was doing great. I work in an inner city school so for most students these faculty members are the closest thing they have to a family or true loving relationship. My kids are preK-8th. How do I deal with this loss as a school nurse? These poor kiddos are going to be devastated to hear the news- Male nurses- I need your help
So I am thinking about starting a Nurse monthly subscription box specifically for male nurses. The items would be popular nursing items made for men along with daily items like gourmet coffees or local items for men. Two questions 1. Is this something you would buy and at What price? 2. What type of items would you like to see? This may be too small of a niche but I want to get some insight into if this is a good choice or not:geek:- School Nurse is a Lonely job
That is great insight! I didn't think about how much I could offer other than visits from the students and an education meeting here and there. I'm going to research more into the role of the school nurse and see what research I can find. Thank you :)- School Nurse is a Lonely job
I already feel like that , i need some serious saving lessons before summer gets here!- School Nurse is a Lonely job
I usually have 1-2 students (or more if my door is open) in the clinic at any time throughout the day, But Thursday is Church day, which means I usually have 1.5 hours of no students (unless they are truly sick )- School Nurse is a Lonely job
thanks lvnforschool, It has been slowly getting better and people are starting to recognize me. I'm just hoping it continues to grow. A lot of the students have already asked if I will be here next year because, as they put it, "the nurses always leave" I may be naive but id love to make a difference in this school so I am hopeful it will continue to get better! It's nice to hear that it has gotten better as the years go on.- School Nurse is a Lonely job
I was put on the email list but they had my name spelled wrong, they have told me they would fix it but it hasn't been done yet, and I share an office with auxiliary who is only here Monday and Friday so all the testing and paperwork is hers. I try to keep the door open when I'm in the office but it is right in the lineup for the 5th graders classes and ends up being in the way when open. I have k-8th grade. The school is fairly small with about 200 students all together. that is good idea, and live education. My problem is I feel like whenever I ask for something it seems like I'm intruding, or stepping over my boundaries. The secretary has been helping out with medications and things before I came along when they didn't have a nurse and she is having a hard time letting it go. There has been times when she has called me to bring the thermometer to her because a student was sick and she wanted to check her temp. I have tried to reason with her and let her know I'm here to help but now I feel as though I need to pick my battles. The principle is great, when she's available but with her being so busy I usually don't hear anything back or she tells me she will work on it and get back to me. Maybe I will come up with a educational plan of something I think the students would benefit from and just go from there. So far I've had to just put my foot down and do what needs to be down before hearing back. I have been asking for weeks the best time for my hearing screenings and the principle has not gotten back to me so I just planned them for this week anyway. I never thought all this autonomy would be so stressful- School Nurse is a Lonely job
Maybe I spoke too soon. The science teacher just asked if I would like to teach her students about STI's when she does her reproductive section haha making my way up!- School Nurse is a Lonely job
Thank you BeckyESRN, I have addressed it with them, they are suppose to be putting a speaker in and giving me a walkie talkie and key (I have to ask for my office to be unlocked every morning ). They are working on all of this just at a very slow place. Thank goodness it was a soft lockdown, because I had let some students leave the office before I found out about it.- School Nurse is a Lonely job
Ah yes I think that's what I miss is being surrounded with coworkers and friends, I sometimes think about going back to the hospital too but the hours and holidays/summers off is worth it. Having a happy hour would be amazing! If only! - How to Prepare for a Nurse Manager Interview
