Columbia Post-RN DNP Program
I believe their doctorate program is very well rated nationally so probably a bit more competitive than other programs in the area? I'm applying to NYU also. I work at NYU so the tuition remission is appealing but Columbia is a better rated program..did anyone go to the open house for the DNP program?

Hello! I applied as well. Does anyone happen to know what the cost of the program is?

Columbia CRNA Summer 2017 (MSN)
You must have at least one year of ICU experience to get into Columbia's program. At the open house they stated that it must be ICU--ER, PACU and step down do not count (not all programs are like this). Graduate, do your best to get into an ICU (MICU, CCU, CTICU), work for at least 1 year (prerrably longer) and take your CCRN exam. Try to keep your GPA as competitive as possible, especially in your nursing and science specific courses. Goodluck!

Columbia CRNA Summer 2017 (MSN)
I haven't heard either. I submitted Sept. 23rd and my GRE scores still haven't been checked off. I called Columbia and they said they are still processing the scores coming in..starting to feel disappointed though.

Stopped a heparin drip too early, feeling awful
I COMPLETELY agree with the other posters. This is a minor error in the grand scheme of things. Heparin has a substantial half life and if she was also taking an oral anticoagulant in addition then she was protected. Like the others said, learn from this little error! I've seen nurses make more serious errors and everything has turned out OK. There is an interesting discussion regarding making errors in nursing and the emotional toll it takes on the RN. The errors we make weigh so heavily on our minds and hearts and can have serious emotional consequences for a nurse, especially a novice RN. Try not to worry so much, learn and grow from the error and you'll be a better nurse in the long run for it. You already know you are a good nurse because you care so much! Remember that!

ACLS/PALS Renewal
Hello, I currently work at a magnet hospital that does not provide mandatory certification classes at the hospital. Currently, I have to find a class that provides initial or recertification classes, then apply for reimbursement at the hospital, take the class and pay for it out of pocket, and then receive reimbursement from the hospital for the class (if approved) at a later date. My previous place of employment provided these classes on-site, therefore I would be paid for my hours spent at the class in my following paycheck. It was a much simpler process and I was paid for the time I spent in the classroom. My current situation does not reimburse me for the lost time. Just wondering how it works at other hospitals, as I am trying to fight this at my current place of employment. Any contributions would be much appreciated!
