  1. Hello, I've been a nurse for a year and a half. My background is long-term care. I recently took on a job at the local health department. I'm the only nurse and there has not been a nurse in this position since December. I'm feeling so overwhelmed, since I have little guidance. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

  3. Hello everyone! I wanted to ask for your opinion. I've been a RN for a little over a year. Currently work in healthcare/assisted living at a nursing home. I love working third shift. I don't work at a bad place and I love the residents. The facility keeps admitting people to assisted living that don't even know how to get back to there own room and 2 weeks ago I caught someone escaping. There are always med errors happening. I'm one nurse over 45 people in assisted living (we call it healthcare overflow.) Now, they keep admitting hospice to assisted living and I don't have enough staff to keep an eye on people trying to escape and those coming to the end of their life. S ome of the staff members don't want to work as a team. But I know that happens. I honestly hate coming into work to the point my stomach is in knots. I feel like I want to experience the hospital nursing. But scared to make the move since I'm comfortable here. When I had clinical, I was not a fan of med-surg, peds, or OB. Just looking for a little guidance. Thank you! Sorry, this is a little mixed around. My thoughts are all over the place right now

  5. I work in long term care. We just have a med error report :/
  6. So I have a resident that is on primodine 250 mg : give 1 tab TID (6 am, 12 p, 8p). The pills were in half. Her order just recently changed to ONE whole tab TID. So I was suppose to give two half tabs, so the last few days. I was only giving half of the recommended dose at 6 am. The correct dose was given today. I feel so guilty. The resident is completely fine, no changes in condition. I asked the first shift nurse what to do and she said it was alright. The mistake was made over a day ago. I'm not sure what to do. I'm going to talk to my supervisor today.
  7. Thank you very much!
  8. I've currently been an RN for 10 months working 2nd shift at a nursing home. I absolutely love my job. The first shift nurse keeps blaming me for small mistakes, because she cannot admit when she made the mistake herself. Lately, she will text me on her days off to tell me what I did wrong the previous evening. If I didn't put an order in the way that she prefers the order to be put in or just ridicule me anyway she can. I know she starts to take things out on me when her marriage is bad . She is starting to become a bully. Thankfully, after next week I will be moving to a different department on 3rd shift, because I can no longer take it. I've talked to the DON multiple times, but nothing has changed. I'm looking forward to third shift.
  9. Hello! I'm looking for advice. I've been a nurse for 5 months total! I received 2 days training as a brand new RN at a LTC facility. I'm currently working 2ND shift, but I hate only having one another nurse in the building with me. If something happens, I'm afraid I'm going to mess up. A first shift job was just posted and I would feel so much better if I took it. During the day....there is a lot more staff! I'm just more concerned with patient safety and being a safe new nurse. Switching to first shift, I will be working in assisted living and memory support. Instead of Healthcare. I don't want to make my current co workers mad, but I need to do what's best for me. Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks 😊
