Good Idea to Speak to Admissions Counselor
Hello, I just received transcripts from my previous education (a bachelor's degree from a non-science field). I want to schedule an appointment with the admissions counsellor to see if I stand any chance as a transfer student, based on my past performance. 1. Is this a good idea? 2. Can admission counsellors "chance" me - or it is not ethical? 3. How should I phrase the request? Thanks very much, Oy

Anatomy and Physio Pre-Reqs
Good afternoon. I am about to register for BIO-221 (Anatomy and Physiology 1) for the spring term at the Camden County Community College. The course requires BIO-111 (an Introductory Biology Science) as a pre-req. However, I have not yet taken BIO-111. Instead, currently, I am finishing BIO-121 (Microbiology 1) and Math-029 this fall term. The CC can allow me to register as a Guest student and complete the course without having met the pre-reqs. I already have a college degree, completed many many many years ago, and did take some some science courses, including biology during that time. Question 1: Is this background (taking BIO-121) sufficient preparation for the BIO-221, or would you advice that I go back and take BIO-111? Question 2: I plan to also take an introductory Chemistry class (010 - Preparation for Chemistry) along with the Anatomy & Physio 1. Is this also a realistic approach? or Should I just concentrate on A & P 1? thanks - Oy

Math before Anatomy and Physio
Thanks very much for all your responses. For the sake of clarification, here are the cascading requirements: BIO-117 Basic Anatomy & Physiology I (4.00 cr.) This course is designed to introduce the basic principles of anatomy and physiology to nursing and allied health students. Following an introduction to the organization of the human body, basic chemistry, and basic cell biology, Basic Anatomy and Physiology (BIO 117) examines the histology, gross anatomy and functions of organs of the integumentary, skeleton, muscular, and nervous systems. Laboratories are designed to supplement the lecture material and include the use of the following materials: histology slides, models, preserved specimens and computer simulated physiology exercises. Lecture (30.00), Laboratory (60.00) Prerequisites: ENG-013, ENG-023 and MTH-029 MTH-029 Elementary Algebra Traditional (4.00 cr.) This course is designed for students who require a background of elementary algebra before taking further college mathematics courses. The course provides the students a familiarity with mathematical symbols and operations in order to formulate and solve first-degree and second-degree equations, graph equations and systems of equations, and work with polynomials, rational expressions, and radicals. Students will apply appropriate mathematical and statistical concepts and operations to interpret data and to solve problems. (Credits do not apply toward graduation requirements.) Basic computation is a fundamental objective of this course. Therefore, the use of calculators is prohibited. Lecture (60.00), Laboratory (15.00) Prerequisites: MTH-011 MTH-011 PreAlgebra Traditional (3.00 cr.) This course is designed for the college student who needs training in basic numerical processes with whole numbers, fractions, decimals, ratios, proportions, percentages, signed numbers and linear equations. (Credits do not apply toward graduation requirements). Basic computation is a fundamental objective of this course. Therefore the use of calculators is prohibited. Lecture (45.00), Laboratory (15.00)

Math before Anatomy and Physio
Hello, I am planning to register for an Anatomy and Physio-I at a CC. One prereq for that course is Math-029 (Elementary Algebra Traditional). Now, is it advisable to shoot for the Anatomy and Physio without this (can I wing it) or it is better to get the Elementary Algebra over and done with? thanks - Ginny

Bachelor's Degree (NonScience) to Nursing
So can one take the pre-reqs in the same university? I see some students refer to themselves as pre-nursing - by that are they doing pre-reqs? Or do I have to go back to high school / community college and take the pre-reqs? thanks - Ginny

Bachelor's Degree (NonScience) to Nursing
Good morning. I am facing a dilemma and need advice. I am planning to start training to become a nurse. I already have a Bachelor's program and ideally could take the accelerated nursing program, but this would require almost 2 years of pre-req preparation before getting into the accelerated program. I thought it would be better to go straight into the regular Nursing (I.e, 4 years) program. Drexel's program is an option since I live in the Philly area and my husband works there. As stated, I already have a Bachelor's degree from outside the USA, and had started a Masters in Special Education in the USA before I interrupted my education because of family reasons. Do you think pursuing the 4 year Nursing program is the best approach in this case? Or is it better to start with some gen-ed program and then transfer into the BSN program? Given my previous educational background (i.e, I am not coming straight out of high school), are there different admission requirements? Do i still have to write the SAT, admissions essays before entering the 4-yr nursing program. Thanks again, and looking forward to hearing from you. all the best, Ginny
