Hey everyone! I wanted to make a discussion for those who are applying to the spring 2018 grossmont nursing program. How many points does everyone think they have?

I totally understand. Be thinking about any and all questions. You will be assigned a mentor from 2-4th semester students and will meet them at orientation. They will be able to answer even more questions for you! Or ask here. I will try my best to answer :)

Congrats! I would logon to webadvisor and pull up the spring 2017 courses. You can find all the courses for every semester under the student handbook: Student Handbook on pg 15. Semester one is NURS 118, 119, and 120. The schedule varies depending on your choice. If it is set up just like spring, you have the choice to have classes mon, wed, fri for the first month. Then it switches to just monday and friday with a clinical day on either wednesday or thursday. Or you can take the mon, tues, weds, fri for the first month. Then it changes to monday, tuesday, and friday with clinical on either weds or thurs. You don't really get to choose your clinical day. I personally liked the first option because after the first month, I had 2 days during the week to study. Other people liked the second option because they didn't have to stay at school all day on mondays. It is entirely your preference. Anything I wish I had known before starting- that the pre-class assignments are not turned in for a grade. Still do them to the best of your ability because they will help prepare you for your exams and they guide you on what exactly to read. I spent hours working on them before the semester started, and all they do is glance at them. Also, you are going to be given a list of meds to look over at orientation. Complete the list, but dont stress about learning them during summer. You will learn all about them in your pharm class (118, 119).

Thanks EmilyMichelle! I just got the invite email. I'm not sure how many points I got though. I originally thought I had close to 90, but then I re calculated and thought it was high 70s.. so Don't compare your points to mine.

It sounds like 40 applicants. Under the headline "LVN to RN" on the webpage Nursing the last sentence states, "If you are within the top 40 applicants, you will be invited to attend the full 2 year Generic ADN Program." It does sound like a lot though! Im really curious how many people applied. It worries me that it is taking this long.

Thanks for updating us ckaltenbach. I wonder if it is taking longer because there were more applicants this year than there have been in the previous years?

I took 4 semester of a language- I didnt have to provide any grades for those courses, but they will probably look on my transcript. I dont know if you need 3 or 4 semesters of a language in order for it to count for the program. Supposedly, grades A-D are considered passing which would make your C- passing. You can probably search it on google. I did a quick search and found this: Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) It talks about grading criteria. Hope that helps some! I have not called the office, but I am going nuts waiting!!

I feel like I am going nuts by checking my email every 10 minutes then checking on here to see if anyone has gotten an email. It is so nerve racking! I am pretty sure we will here tomorrow or monday. Looking back at previous cohorts- they started getting notifications on the 17th, but I did read that some cohorts started getting theirs on the 16th. I just want to know so I can stop obsessing over it haha.

They didn't give me any details about when I would hear back. I have heard from other people that it takes about 6 weeks.

I made a mistake and calculated something twice somehow. I have about 77 points. Does anyone know the average points an individual gets? I am curious what my chances are for getting in.
